Aircraft Maintenance Technician Programme


The Programmes:

The Aircraft Maintenance Technician Programme is a structured, competency-based training pathway designed by leading Airlines and MROs in collaboration with Hindustan Aviation Academy to enable aviation aspirants to efficiently meet all regulatory requirements stipulated under DGCA CAR 66 and qualify as Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Technicians and Engineers at an early stage in their careers.

This programme is aligned with the operational needs of the Indian Aviation Industry and aims to develop highly skilled, job-ready professionals capable of certifying and maintaining modern aircraft including the Airbus A320, Boeing 737 series, ATR and more.


Programme Objective:

To develop competent and industry-ready Aircraft Maintenance Engineers in the Cat. A, B1.1 (Aeroplane Turbine) and B2 (Avionics) categories, capable of performing certification and maintenance activities in compliance with DGCA regulations.


Minimum Eligibility Criteria:

  • Successful completion of 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) OR 3-year Diploma in Aeronautical / Mechanical / Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum 60% aggregate marks overall



PROGRAMME STRUCTURE:


Phase 1: DGCA CAR-147 Basic Training:

Duration: 3 Years

Candidates shall undergo DGCA-approved CAR-147 Basic Training in either B1.1 or B2 category at Hindustan Aviation Academy.

During this phase:

  • BSc Aircraft Maintenance undergraduate degree course affiliated to Bengaluru North University (Optional).
  • All DGCA CAR-66 modules must be successfully completed within the stipulated duration of the course.
  • Training includes both theoretical instruction, practical workshops and OEPT – Operational Environment Practical Training (i.e. hands-on practical training on live operational aircraft) at leading airlines facilities.
  • Candidates need to acquire Indian RTR License
  • Upon successful completion, candidates will be designated as Trainee / Junior Technician with the Airlines.

Phase 2: Practical Maintenance Training:

Minimum Duration: 2 Years

Trainee / Junior Technician will undergo structured practical training and gain experience at the designated MRO facility.

  • Gain hands-on experience in Line and Base Maintenance activities
  • Completion of all assigned maintenance tasks as per regulatory requirements
  • Proper documentation and certification of tasks in personal logbooks, validated by authorized certifying staff and Quality Department
  • Candidates become eligible to apply for Category A License and progress as Base / Line Maintenance Technicians or Cat. A AME at the Airlines

Phase 3: Application for DGCA AME License (Cat. A):

Upon successful completion of all preceding phases and fulfilment of DGCA CAR-66 requirements:

  • Candidates are eligible to apply for A Cat. A AME License
  • Application shall be submitted to the DGCA with the concurrence of the Quality Control Department of the Airlines’ MRO
  • Upon approval and issue of AME license by the DGCA, candidates are authorized to certify and release aircraft to service as Licensed Cat. A Aircraft Maintenance Technicians
  • In future, depending on the performance of the employee the Cat. A license can be upgraded to Cat. B1.1 or B2.

Outcome

Graduates of the Aircraft Maintenance Technician Programme will be fully qualified and industry-ready professionals, capable of independently certifying aircraft maintenance activities on modern fleets, thereby contributing to safe and efficient aviation operations.
