Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME) plays a vital role in aviation, ensuring that every aeroplane or helicopter is safe to operate at all times. Aircraft Maintenance Engineers and Technicians are a niche group of highly skilled professionals approved by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) under the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India. They are responsible for ensuring that aircraft are in a fully serviceable condition, also known as “airworthy,” for safe operations. All scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) activities are carried out exclusively by trained Aircraft Maintenance Engineers and Technicians. These professionals are highly trained to identify issues and rectify them efficiently and safely. An aircraft is issued a “Certificate of Airworthiness” only after an AME has completed all required maintenance procedures. Such procedures can be performed only by licensed professionals who have met the regulatory requirements set by the civil aviation authority.
If you are passionate about aeroplanes and helicopters and aspire to work as an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer or Technician, you must obtain a License issued by the DGCA, Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India.
HAA offers the following DGCA-approved license categories:
B1.1 – Aeroplane Turbine
B1.3 – Helicopter Turbine
B2 – Avionics
Students can also pursue a BSc in Aircraft Maintenance affiliated with Bangalore North University alongside the AME License course. This enhances career prospects in aviation and aeronautical engineering, expanding opportunities beyond aircraft maintenance alone.

HAA collaborates with DGCA CAR 145-approved Aircraft Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) organizations to provide “Operational Environment Practical Training,” including:
Students also undergo training in workshops, laboratories, simulators, and on serviceable aircraft such as the Learjet, Cessna 172R, Chetak Helicopter, and HAL-HT2 available on campus. Students are required to observe and perform tasks on live aircraft as prescribed by the DGCA. This hands-on experience is recorded in the Aircraft Maintenance Personal Logbook under the supervision of nodal officers appointed by HAA and the respective MRO.
The civil aviation industry is currently facing a significant shortage of qualified manpower. Industry–institution collaborations help bridge this gap and ensure strong employment opportunities for students upon completion of the program.
Students enrolled in Cadet AME Programs receive a “Letter of Intent” at the time of admission. Other high-performing students with exceptional academic and personal records may receive a “Contract of Employment” towards the end of their course.
HAA collaborates with leading organizations such as IndiGo, Air India, Air Works India Engineering Pvt. Ltd., Deccan, Dviation (Malaysia), and ST Engineering Aerospace (Singapore), among others, to assist students in securing suitable opportunities.
Graduates are placed across both public and private sectors, including organizations such as: Indian Air Force, Indian Army, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Air Works India Engineering Pvt. Ltd., IndiGo, SpiceJet, GoAir, Vistara, Singapore Airlines, Emirates, Etihad, Qatar Airways, Gulf Air, Saudia, Cathay Pacific, Malaysia Airlines, KLM, British Airways, and OEMs like Airbus, Boeing, GE, Collins Aerospace, Textron, Pratt & Whitney, Bombardier, and more.
Students are expected to be disciplined, motivated, and adaptable to meet the challenges of the aviation industry and develop into skilled and dedicated Licensed Aircraft Engineers.
Placement records from previous batches are available with the AME Department. The department also maintains a strong alumni network (covering the past five years) to keep graduates informed about current job opportunities.
